This fundraiser is about securing Shevet Gilad’s ability to hire a graduate Merakez (chapter leader). This is a crucial role that works directly with our youth and helps keep the entire shevet running with full strength and energy. Without this person, the shevet faces serious risk.
For years, a partner organization played a central role and effectively covered about half the cost of this position. They have since shifted their focus elsewhere, and our shevet must now cover the full cost on its own. We need our community to step up and help cover the budget required to secure the Merakez.
Our goal is to secure funding for two years—the recommended contract with the Jewish Federation that helps source and coordinate this person’s relocation from Israel. Two years is also better for our shevet: it takes time to settle in and get accustomed to the environment, and we want to get the most from this leadership.
The Shaliach, serving as the Merkaz Shevet, is the senior educational and operational leader of the chapter. This individual holds primary responsibility for the planning, execution, and oversight of all chapter activities. Key responsibilities include:
In essence, the Merkaz Shevet serves as the cornerstone of the chapter’s success—an educator, mentor, and role model who upholds the mission and values of the Israeli Scouts movement.
